When it comes to the construction sector, some things never change; workers will always need strong, reliable workwear and PPE to keep them comfortable and safe onsite. However, there are other aspects of these industries that are long overdue for an update. One such area is the representation of women.

It’s no secret that construction has traditionally been a male-dominated industry. In NZ, about 50% of our population are women, and yet they make up only 13% of our construction workers, and only 3% of construction tradespeople.

With the sector facing unprecedented demand, now is the perfect time to encourage more women to pursue careers in construction. BCITO is aiming to have 30% of all construction trades roles filled by women by 2040. That sounds great to us.

Westpeak’s Lightweight Stretch Hi-Vis Kneepad Trousers for men are our #1 selling work pants in NZ, a favourite for workers in a variety of industries. So it made perfect sense to include a version of these in our women’s range. These are made with 65% polyester, 32% cotton, and 3% lycra in 200gsm fabric. The resulting trousers are lightweight, strong, and have just the right amount of stretch.

Our women’s range also includes functional and attractive hi-vis wear; Breathable Day/Night Polos offer a soft inner feel and tough stitching on seams. Our Women's Ripstop TTMC Long-Sleeved Shirt is made with mesh venting for underarm breathable and storage including two chest pockets, phone pocket, pen partition. For colder days, we offer a Women’s Half-Zip Merino. This is a smart, warm jumper made from 100% merino wool in a 280gsm jersey knit.
